Printers and labels
The Check-in Portal prints name tags on Brother QL label printers, like the QL-1110NWB, over your Wi-Fi network. The printer and the device need to be on the same network.
Connect a printer
You can do this while setting up the device, or later in Settings → Printer.
Let the app find it
The app scans your network and lists the printers it finds under Available Printers. Select yours.
If yours doesn’t show up, select Add Printer and enter a Name (like “QL-1110NWB”) and its IP Address. You’ll find the IP address on the printer’s settings page or a printed network report.
Choose the paper
Select the label size loaded in the printer, like 62mm continuous length or 29mm x 90mm. It needs to match the roll, or labels print cut off.
Do a test print
Select Test Print. If it worked, choose Yes continue. If not, No try again or No pick another printer.
Settings → Printer shows the Current Printer and whether it’s Connected or Not reachable, with its IP address, MAC address, serial number, and paper. Select Test Print any time to check it.
Turn printing off
Some stations don’t need labels, like an admin desk that only checks kids out. In Settings → Printer, turn off Enable Printing.
What prints
| Label | Who gets it | What’s on it |
|---|---|---|
| Name tag | Each child | Their name, allergies and medications (in red), an emergency contact phone number, and a short code. |
| Check-out tag | The parent | Retain For Child Pickup, with a barcode. Its code matches their children’s name tags. Families choose Print check-out ticket at the kiosk if they want one. |
Parents who use the Culminate Life app also get a pick-up pass on their phone and by email, so many won’t need the paper tag.
If printing fails
At a kiosk, families see Printing Error and are asked to find a staff member. They can choose Print again or go back to the welcome screen. Check that the printer is on, has labels, and is on the same Wi-Fi as the device, then test it from Settings → Printer.
To reprint one child’s tag, find them on the admin Check-in tab and print again.
